Importance of a GROWING Leadership Board

I’m sure we all understand the importance of having a strong Leadership Board. Putting a together a TEAM of godly, influential LEADERS who have a passion for Christ, the ministry of FCA and who love to get others around or involved in the ministry is INVALUABLE! But…they can be hard to build and usually require a lot of time, effort and hard work to get people in the right places. It can also be tough to hand the ministry off to them and truly allow them to lead in specific areas of the ministry. Sounds a bit like discipleship, doesn’t it??

As directors, we get the joy and pleasure of leading not only staff but volunteers. And we truly have no greater area in which to lead, train and disciple others than with our board. Let’s be sure that we keep the discipleship mindset while building our boards as we do in the other areas of FCA ministry and relish the role of truly growing the people on our boards. Here are some ways that we can grow or pour into our board on a consistent basis:

  • Meet regularly with your board chair with a challenge of each of us bringing the name of one potential new board member. Always having a recruiting mindset!
  • Challenge your board chair (or any other board member) to study a book of the Bible or read a solid, Christian book that challenges each of you.
  • Plan a trip to KC for a 2 day/1 night trip to visit the National Support Center and have your regular board meeting.  Nothing like being together!
  • Have a Leadership Luncheon where coaches and community/business leaders are invited to listen to a local or regional speaker that is well-connected to FCA.
  • Incorporate regular times of hearing and looking into God’s Word during your board meetings. Cover what needs to be covered in each meeting…but never sacrifice the opportunity to hear God’s Word together.
  • Frequently cover a topic or two out of the FCA Leadership Playbook at your board meeting. I’m convinced that good discussion will follow each topic that is discussed.

These are just a few ideas/reminders that could help you BUILD your board and exponentially grow the ministry in your area. If our ministry is to grow, then our board must grow…in numbers and in godly wisdom.
